Exploring color theories and techniques in colored pencil art.

For ages 18+

This class is a blast of color designed for folks who are ready to dive into the exciting world of colored pencil art. Whether you’re a total beginner or already rocking some art skills, get ready for a fun experience where you’ll bring your visions to life in vivid hues. Explore color theory, unique mark-making, blending, and more to bring your art to life with this fun medium.

Materials:

  • Participants should bring their own colored pencils

  • Mixed media of their choice (optional)

  • Pages from "Book of the Bizarre" coloring book (provided by the teacher).

CLASS AGENDA

Ice Breaker:
"When was the last time you colored?"

Introduction to Color Theories:
Discuss the essential question: "How do color schemes impact the emotional and visual aspects of art?" Introduce concepts of complimentary, analogous, and monochromatic color schemes. Show examples and discuss their effects on perception.

Experiment with Color Techniques:

  • Mark Making: Experiment with different marks using colored pencils to create textures and patterns. "For our movers and shakers, remember, coloring isn't just for fingers. Go ahead, color with your toes – just make sure your shoes are clean! It's a full-body masterpiece."

  • Burnishing: Demonstrate the technique of burnishing to achieve a smooth, polished finish with colored pencils.

  • Layering and Blending: Participants are guided through layering colors to create depth and demonstrate blending techniques.

Alternative Techniques:
Introduction of unspecified alternative techniques, emphasizing the importance of hands-on learning. Participants will explore these techniques using their own intuition and creativity, fostering a sense of discovery.

Reflection and Sharing

Conclusion:
Summary of key learnings, address any questions, and provide information about upcoming classes or resources for further exploration.


ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

With a background deeply rooted in the public school system, Rahela Laquidara has mastered the art of teaching standards, safety protocols, statewide goals, and more. Her teaching journey has equipped her with expertise in lesson plan development, curriculum design, brain-based learning, differentiated instruction and scaffolding.

Currently on a break from the public education hustle, Rahela eager to concentrate on teaching art. Her North Carolina teaching license is shining bright, ready for action. The colorful pages of her coloring book, Book of the Bizarre, is her my secret weapon, capturing the imagination of creative minds everywhere.
